Care Tech Human Impact Resource – Scottish Care

As a Service Design Researcher with Scottish Care, I contributed to the Care Tech Human Impact Resource, a project exploring the impact of technology within social care settings. The initiative aimed to capture the human stories behind technology use, ensuring that innovation in care remains grounded in empathy, dignity, and trust.

My role centred on research and co-design. I conducted stakeholder interviews with care providers, frontline staff, and organisations such as PluggedIn and Baillieston Community Care to explore the vital role they play in supporting people across Scotland through care technology. My focus was on understanding how these organisations implement technology to enhance lives, while ensuring that care remains human-centred and accessible. Throughout these interviews I was drawing out their experiences, challenges, and aspirations and then synthesised these insights into themes that informed the design of practical resources for Scottish Care and the organisations. These resources were developed to be shared by Scottish Care and partner organisations, highlighting best practice and inspiring wider adoption of technology in ways that enhance, rather than replace, meaningful care.

In addition to research and design, I participated in the Scottish Care: Care Tech Assembly, engaging directly with providers, community organisations, and policymakers. This experience not only strengthened my ability to communicate my research findings during discussions but also gave me the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of a significant sector-wide event focused on innovation in care.

Through this project, I demonstrated skills in stakeholder engagement, qualitative research, storytelling, and service design communication — ensuring that complex findings were translated into impactful, practical outputs for the social care sector. This experience deepened my expertise in applying service design within complex, sensitive contexts. It demonstrated my ability to balance the technical possibilities of digital tools with the human needs of vulnerable groups, producing outcomes that were both actionable and ethically responsible.
