LEGION

LEGION

Insects predate us by millions of years, they have seen the dinosaurs  die out and the rise of mankind. they swarm around our feet in their overwhelming millions. a legion that crawls through the mud and slime, pushes through the grass and copulate in the flowers. they are tiny machine organisms, like wind up toys which portray no melodrama and no emotion, they do not need it.

This series portrays the life of insects in nature and in artificial studio settings, where staging and photographic techniques like lighting are used to convey a sense of artificial reality. a state of unsettling perfection, that we know is false. To me this is the great appeal of photography, it’s ability to transform ordinary or disparate objects and turn them into a narrative.

notions of human/animal interaction, the anthropocene and beauty are explored in the work.
